Neben Charcot Mitbegründer der modernen Neurologie (National Hospital for the Paralysed and Epileptic). Mitbegründer 1871 der Fachzeitschrift „Brain, Journal of Neurology“. Nach ihm werden die epileptischen Phänomene wie Jackson-Anfall, Jackson-Marsch, Jackson- Status sowie das Jackson-Syndrom benannt.
